Spa Site Readiness and Delivery Day Checklist

A step-by-step checklist to confirm your pad, access route, electrical circuit, and drainage are ready before a luxury hot tub or swim spa arrives.

The most expensive day in the life of a premium spa is often delivery day. A pad that is not level, a gate that is two inches too narrow, or an electrical circuit that has not passed inspection can turn a scheduled placement into a rescheduled one, with crane fees, storage charges, and a cold spa sitting on a driveway. Almost all of those problems are visible weeks in advance if someone walks the site with a tape measure and a plan. This checklist is that walk, written down.

Work through it in order, ideally starting six to eight weeks before the delivery window, and treat each line as something you can tick only once you have seen it with your own eyes or have it in writing.   • Copy the exact footprint, dry weight, and water capacity from the spec sheet, then add the filled water weight and a realistic bather load to get the total the pad must carry
  • Run those figures through the pad load calculator at /tools/spa-pad-load-calculator/ and give the printout to your concrete or deck contractor
  • Verify the pad is level across its full span with a long straightedge and record any deviation against the tolerance stated in the owner's manual
  • Check that the pad extends beyond the spa footprint on every side so the cabinet edges are fully supported and the service panels can be opened
  • Confirm the pad has fully cured before the delivery date; ask the contractor for the cure time of their mix rather than judging by how dry the surface looks
  • Photograph the finished pad, the drainage slope, and the surroundings before the spa is set, in case a warranty question about the base arises later
  • Walk the delivery route from the street to the pad and measure every gate, side yard, and overhead obstruction against the spa's shipping dimensions on its side
  • Note any slope, steps, soft lawn, or tight turns on the route and send photos to the dealer so they can plan for a dolly, a spa sled, or a crane
  • If a crane is required, confirm in writing who books it, who pays for it, and what happens if trees or power lines block the lift path on the day
  • Have a licensed electrician install the dedicated circuit, GFCI disconnect, and conduit specified in the manual, at the distance from the water your local code requires
  • Pull the electrical permit and book the inspection early so the spa can be energized on delivery day instead of sitting unheated for a week
  • Confirm the disconnect is within sight of the spa and reachable without stepping over the cabinet or through planting beds
  • Locate the nearest hose bib and check that the hose you actually own reaches the spa with slack to spare
  • Decide where several hundred gallons of drained water will go every few months, and check local rules before directing it to a storm drain
  • Confirm the ground around the pad slopes away from the spa so rain and splash-out cannot pool under the cabinet
  • Keep a clear service zone on the equipment side of the cabinet so a technician can remove panels without moving the spa
  • Choose a cover lifter now and check the clearance it needs behind and above the spa when the cover is fully open
  • Agree with the dealer on exactly what the delivery crew will do: set, level, and position the spa, but connect nothing electrical unless they are licensed
  • Have startup chemicals, test strips, and a spare filter set on hand before the fill, not the day after
  • Ask the dealer for the written startup procedure and the warranty registration steps, and complete the registration in the same week
  • Fill through the filter well as instructed, balance the water, and take the first test reading before anyone gets in
  • File the delivery paperwork, serial number, purchase agreement, and a photo of the spa on the pad together in one folder
